In the summertime, when the sculpting materials begin to feel "tacky" from the warmer temperatures, Alonzo turns to his other form of artistic expression, his bold and distinctive oil pastels. In making the drawings, Alonzo does not so much pull from his "savant wiring" as from his ongoing urge to create; therefore, the pastels have a very different quality than his sculptures.
He sold some for awhile, but decided he was uncomfortable with that, preferring to keep them for decorating his home. They are shown here to illustrate another aspect of his creative spirit.
